In the heat of the Summer in Florida, one must never stray too far from ice cream. After going vegan, I had to hunt down some dairy-free, vegan ice cream, FAST. Upon my quest, I found that there are plenty of vegan friendly ice cream options! However, I couldn’t help but notice that after trying every one I could get my hands on…there are three kinds that keep me coming back for more. Considering TASTE first and foremost, these are my top three picks for vegan ice creams you can find almost anywhere!
Drum roll pleeeaaase…
Homemade Banana Ice Cream!
In third place we have homemade banana ice cream! So, this is not one you can buy ready made at the store, but that’s kind of the beauty of it. My favorite thing about this healthy delight is that if you have the ingredients at home, and it is what your heart desires, you can have banana ice cream for breakfast lunch and dinner. I always keep a giant container of frozen ripe, peeled and sliced banananaaas, in the freezer at ALL times. For this particular batch I added 4 frozen strawberries to the incredibly easy recipe for plain banana ice cream which is . . .
- 1 large peeled, sliced, frozen banana
- 1/4 cup of almond or coconut milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Place bananas, dairy-free milk, and vanilla extract into blender
- Blend on high until smooth
- Scoop into dish, serve and enjoy!
- If you’d like, before serving, add another ingredient for additional flavor and blend again until smooth! I recommend one of these: 4 frozen strawberries, a tbsp of peanut butter, a teaspoon of cinnamon, 10 frozen blueberries, or a tbsp of cocoa powder
Let’s see who’s up next….
So Delicious – Dairy Free
In second place we have So Delicious – Dairy Free. I love it in chocolate because it’s classic but with flavuuuh. So Delicious is so committed to their field of expertise that their entire line of foods and beverages is certified vegan and Non-GMO Project Verified or enrolled. This ice cream really is incredibly delicious. In case you were wondering, coconut milk is their sub of choice for dairy. You can taste the difference, but in a good way! Subtle notes of refreshing coconut will splash around in every bite. The best part about this ice cream is that as you indulge in an amazing tasting treat, you’re also supporting a thoughtful and compassionate company. The philosophy they practice at So Delicious – Dairy Free spreads from encouraging bike riding and car pooling for employees, to water conservation and where they get their ingredients.
Okay okay, before goin ham (not sure if it’s kosher to use that term after going vegan) I recommend letting it sit for a minute or two. Like most ice creams, this kind will become much creamier after just a moment out of the freezer. Paired with berries, So Delicious – Dairy Free ice cream (especially in their Chocolate flavor) is a dream.
And now, without further ado . . .
First place for best tasting vegan ice cream goes tooooooo . . .
~Ben & Jerry’s – Non Dairy!!!~
Proud to announce that my first place choice for vegan ice cream is Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy! This sh** is off the chain. I just want to give thanks to Ben & Jerry for supplying me with frozen perfection over the years. Countless Ben&Jerry’s cartons have patiently awaited my return from long summer runs and failed first dates. Now, JUST when I thought I had to give them up . . . they create a handful of non-dairy masterpieces. You’d think it is a sin to taste as amazing as they do but these ice creams are made with fair-trade certified cocoa, sugar, bananas, coffee, and vanilla, and are certified vegan by Vegan Action! If you didn’t know, Vegan Action is the gang behind the V stamp which symbolizes that the product you are considering has been fully inspected and is completely free from animal products – including eggs, dairy, and honey!
If by now your mouth is watering for a cold treat, try a vegan ice cream option today! After all, they are harmless:)
With love and compassion,
